SGU Term 1 Histology + Anatomy + Biochem

This is by far, not complete advice for term 1, although i hope you find it helpful.

For Biochemistry, I have to stress the questions at the end of the Lippincott book provided to us. They are really the best questions/explanations you can find, and there are only 3-4 per chapter, definately worth doing.

  • You will spend most of your time studying Biochemistry.
  • I don't know how accessible review sessions are in Grenada, but in Newcastle for GSP classes, I really recommend finding a review group you like for EACH subject, and do one session per week (3 per week total). This helped tremendously. You are new to this school, and you need to know how to focus on what is important. Being maticulous and OCD about every syllable on the page will bury you quickly. Learn from people who have been through it already.

Okay, for Histology, there is a great website (Blue histology) posted in my links on the right ===> look in the margin.

  • In GSP, the slides have a lot of information, although they will be helpful for Physiology, Pathology, and future classes. You may not care now, you may even be angry and feel like the professor is wasting your time presenting material that you won't be tested on, but you are learning for the step. If you can stomach it, try to pay attention in Histo.
  • The Grenada slides/lectures are talked about as being better material than the GSP slides.
  • If you are using the Grenada slides, pay attention to any slides with stars, smiley faces, or any red boxes around things, these are key.
  • Try to learn during Histo lab if you can.
  • GOTO ALL THE DRILLS (Slide Sessions), and learn what you are looking at with pictures, Then go back with the LAB MANUAL, and you will find everything in the course neatly in there in words, without much extra jargon.
  • Just find what works for you. Histo is difficult for a lot of people for various reasons.

For Anatomy as well, I posted about it seperately (Above), but there are links in the margin ==>     as well. Don't miss out on those resources, they are really helpful.

Remember, Anatomy is 8 credits, Biochem is 5, Histology is 4. That means if you care about your GPA, Anatomy should be your focus. However! GPA is not everything. All these subjects will be on the step. Especially Biochemistry and histology, unfortunately they arent treated with the same weight. SO, be wise about how you spend your time.
